This late-19th-century lodge was originally the home of building magnate Matthew Rooney, whose family was shipwrecked off the Townsville coast on the SS Yongala in 1911. Public areas retain much of their 1880s and 1920s decor, including original wrought-iron ceiling fittings, complemented by antiques and old photographs. There are also motel-style rooms, some with Heritage decor, and modern one- and two-bedroom apartments. The dining room serves steaks, seafood, and pasta dishes. You can also dine or drink cocktails outside on the wide, colonial-style veranda. The hotel is a stroll from numerous attractions and the city's main beach.
