Built around a turn-of-the-20th-century church that is now the Vineyard Café, this property has four cottages and a row of two-story houses (known as terraces) set amid 2 acres of beautiful gardens, hedgerows, and arbors, two blocks from Ballandean village. The charming lodgings, built in the 1990s in a style that complements the rustic church, are furnished with comfortable sofas, colonial antique furniture, and vases brimming with roses from the gardens. The one-bedroom cottages (which have in-room hot tubs big enough for two) and terraces can sleep four people; the two-story, two-bedroom cottage accommodates up to seven. The guests' lounge has an open fireplace, bar, library, and games. Chef Janine Cumming, who co-owns the property with husband Peter, varies her menus seasonally to take advantage of fresh produce from local farms, and does a great gourmet hamper on request.
