Dreamworld

Fodor's Review:

At Coomera's Dreamworld, you can ride on the fastest, highest ride in the world, the Tower of Terror; the tallest high-speed gravity roller coaster in the Southern Hemisphere, the Cyclone; or the world's largest pendulum, the Claw. You can also watch Bengal tigers play and swim with their handlers on Tiger Island, cuddle a koala in Koala Country, see 800 native animals at the Wildlife Sanctuary, cool off in an artificial lagoon, or cruise the park's waterways on a paddle wheeler. Bring swimwear and you can also try the latest boardsport: Flowrider, an amalgam of surfing and skateboarding. The Big Brother house, used for the Australian version of the hit reality TV show, is here, and you can go inside when the show isn't filming. A guided, two-hour Sunset Safari (A$15) promises close-up encounters with tigers and native wildlife, from 4:45 PM in season. The park is 45 minutes outside Brisbane and 25-30 minutes from Surfers Paradise along the M1 Pacific Motorway: take exit 54 at Coomera.

  • Cost: A$64 park entry; A$5 per half-hour FlowRider session with Dreamworld entry, or A$20 an hour, NightRider pass; A$99 2-Day World Pass (2 entries each to Dreamworld & Whitewater World; second visits within 14 days)
  • Open: Daily 10-5; Flowrider 10-4:30; NightRider Thurs. and Fri. 5-10
