On a hillside surrounded by national parkland, this hotel is reminiscent of the best African safari lodges. Air-conditioned, tropically inspired tree-house villas on stilts overlook either the rain forest and river or a natural-rock swimming pool, and have warm timber floors and furnishings, hot tubs, day beds, and verandas slung with hammocks. The lodge is the starting point for four-wheel-drive, cycling, and canoeing trips into otherwise inaccessible national park rain forest. You can recharge at the Healing Waters Spa, where the treatments use all-natural Australian products. Delightful public areas, including the open-sided Tree House restaurant and bar, overlook the Daintree River and rain forest. Guests can borrow board games from reception. Fabulous gourmet breakfasts are included in the price, and the restaurant serves à la carte lunches and dinners
