Accommodations in this state run the gamut from rain-forest lodges, Outback pubs, backpacker hostels, and colonial "Queenslander" bed-and-breakfasts—beautiful timber houses built above the ground on stilts, with big wraparound verandas—to deluxe beachside resorts and big-city hotels. The luxury resorts are clustered around the major tourist areas of Cairns, the islands, and the Gold and Sunshine coasts.
