Accommodations in this state run the gamut from rain-forest lodges, Outback pubs, backpacker hostels, and colonial "Queenslander" bed-and-breakfasts—beautiful timber houses built above the ground on stilts, with big wraparound verandas—to deluxe beachside resorts and big-city hotels. The luxury resorts are clustered around the major tourist areas of Cairns, the islands, and the Gold and Sunshine coasts. In the smaller coastal towns, accommodation is mostly in motels, apartments, and B&Bs.
