By Train in Perth

Crossing the Nullarbor Plain from the eastern states is one of the great rail journeys of the world. Great Southern Railways' Indian Pacific makes three-day runs from Sydney on Saturday and Wednesday and two-day runs from Adelaide on Sunday and Thursday.

TransWA trains cover routes in Western Australia, including the Prospector to Kalgoorlie, the Australind to Bunbury, and the Avonlink to Northam. Transperth trains provide a quick, easy way to get around the city. Fastrak trains run from Perth to Armadale, Clarkson, Fremantle, and Midland. The east-west line runs to Midland and Fremantle, while the north line runs to Joondalup, and the southeast line runs to Armadale. Perth to Fremantle takes about 30 minutes. All suburban trains stop at the station on Wellington Street in downtown Perth. Tickets must be purchased at vending machines before boarding.
