The 1850 Residency building once accommodated government officials and later became offices. Since 1985 it has housed the Western Australian Museum Albany, one of the finest small museums in Australia and a focal point for both the social and natural history of the Albany region. Exhibits explore the local Noongar Aboriginal culture, as well as local geology, flora, and fauna. Also worth visiting are the adjoining saddlery and artisans' gallery. The lovely sandstone building affords sweeping views of the harbor.
