Sydney Aquarium

Sydney Aquarium Review

The larger and more modern of Sydney's public aquariums presents a fascinating view of the underwater world, with saltwater crocodiles, giant sea turtles, and delicate, multicolor fish. Excellent displays highlight Great Barrier Reef marine life and Australia's largest river system, the Murray-Darling. The latest exhibition, Shark HO, features the world's largest animatronic Great White Shark and live videos that track shark movements in Sydney Harbour and our coast waters. Two show-stealing transparent tunnels give a fish's-eye view of the sea, while sharks and stingrays glide overhead. Although the adult admission price is high, family tickets are a good value, as is the "combo pass" that includes nearby Sydney Wildlife World (A$50).

This is a typical aquarium with a few twists. Much of it can be seen fairly quickly but when you get to the outdoor exhibits, you can not only look through the glass walls but actually go through tunnels under the fish. This is a real experience. A little girl carried by her dad, looked up and screamed. He had his hands full getting her through, but What An Experience!
This is right next to the Wildlife World, National Maritime Museum and Darling Harbor boat excursions, and within a block of the Powerhouse Museum and the Chinese Friendship Garden. You can easily go through quickly or spend the entire day in this one small area and see it all.
