bills Review

Named after celebrity chef and cookbook author Bill Granger, this sunny corner café is so addictive it should come with a health warning. It's a favorite hangout of everyone from local nurses to semi-disguised rock stars, and you never know who you might be sitting next to at the newspaper-strewn communal table. If you're not interested in the creaminess of what must be Sydney's best scrambled eggs, try the ricotta hotcakes with fresh banana and honeycomb butter or the corn fritters. Dinner selections, at the Surry Hills location, are similarly gourmet comfort food.

I walked to bill's Cafe and found it closed until this summer, 2007. On the walk back I found Una's for breakfast. It's Aussie with Austrian and Swiss thrown in. The big breakfast ($9.00) of eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, Rosti potatoes and coffee was more than I (280 lb.) could eat! It was great, too! Una's is at 340 Victoria Street about 2 blocks from bill's Cafe. My ratings are for Una's.
