Byron Bay Hinterland
Byron Bay Hinterland Review
Inland from Byron Bay is some of the most picturesque country in Australia. Undulating green hills that once boasted a thriving dairy industry are dotted with villages with a New Age vibe. There are small organic farms growing avocados, coffee, fruits, and macadamia nuts, and cafes in most villages. The best way to discover this gorgeous part of the world—nicknamed the Rainbow Region—is to grab a map and drive. From Byron, take the road toward the regional town of Lismore for about 15 km (9 mi) to the pretty village of Bangalow. Walk along the lovely main street lined with 19th-century storefronts and native Bangalow palms. Carefully follow your map and wind your way northwest for about 20 km (13 mi) to Federal. Meander, via the cute towns of Rosebank and Dunoon, to The Channon, where on the second Sunday of every month you'll find a wonderful market with dozens of stalls and entertainment.
Eternity Springs Art Farm. You may want to relax for a few days at the town's Eternity Springs Art Farm, a groovy B&B that also offers art classes and yoga. 483 Tuntable Creek Rd., Byron Bay, NSW. 02/6688–6385. www.eternitysprings.com.
