Melbourne Events, available from tourist outlets, is a comprehensive monthly guide to what's happening in town. For a complete listing of performing arts events, galleries, and film, consult the "EG" (Entertainment Guide) supplement in the Friday edition of the Age newspaper. The Age's daily "Metro" section has a comprehensive listing of city events such as gallery openings, theater performances, public talks, bands, workshops, and festivals in its "If You Do One Thing Today" pages. Tourism Victoria hosts a fantastic Web site (www.visitmelbourne.com), detailing all of Melbourne's upcoming and current events. The free local music magazine Beat is available at cafés, stores, markets, and bars. Brother Sister is the local gay paper.
Most of the central city's dance clubs are along the King Street strip or nestled in Little Collins Street. Clubs usually open at 9 or 10 weekends and some weeknights, and stay open until the early-morning hours. Expect to pay a small cover at most clubs—between A$10 and A$15.
