Golf in Melbourne

Golf

Melbourne has the largest number of championship golf courses in Australia. Four kilometers (2 1/2 mi) south of the city, Albert Park Golf Course (Queens Rd., South Melbourne. 03/9510-5588) is an 18-hole, par-72 course that traverses Albert Park Lake, near where the Formula 1 Grand Prix is held in March. Greens fees are A$18 (9 holes), A$23.50-A$25 (18 holes). The 18-hole, par-67 Brighton Public Golf Course (232 Dendy St., Brighton. 03/9592-1388) has excellent scenery but is quite busy on weekends and midweek mornings. Club rental is available. Greens fees are A$16 (9 holes), A$24 (18 holes). Ivanhoe Public Golf Course (Vasey St., East Ivanhoe. 03/9499-7001), an 18-hole, par-68 course, is well suited to the average golfer and is open to the public every day except holidays. Greens fees are A$16 (9 holes), A$23 (18 holes). Five minutes from the beach, Sandringham Golf Links (Cheltenham Rd., Sandringham. 03/9598-3590) is one of the better public courses. The area is known as the Golf Links because there are several excellent courses in the vicinity. Sandringham is an 18-hole, par-72 course. Greens fees are A$23 (18 holes).
