$-$$$$, On the Way to Uluru
Fodor's Review:
The only place to stay within Watarrka National Park, this resort is 7 km (4 1/2 mi) from the canyon. If you've come directly from the truly upscale Ayers Rock Resort (also operated by Voyages) this property may disappoint. Accommodations include two- and four-bed lodge rooms in desert hues, but even the deluxe rooms are sparse and functional. Whirlpool baths surrounded by wraparound windows are a nice touch -- however, you can't actually see any of the park or the canyon from them. The local water supply is treated with sulfur, so there's also an unpleasant smell around the entire compound. The staff is very helpful, doing the best it can with the resort's limited resources. The lively pub is a good distraction from the accommodations, and there are also a large gas station and grocery, casual and upscale dining options, and two pools. Its most unique feature is the six-course, couples-only Sounds of Firelight (A$139), where you dine in style around a desert campfire under the stars (though not during the summer months).
