By Train in Adelaide and South Australia

Four suburban train lines serve north- and south-coast suburbs, the northeast ranges, and the Adelaide Hills. Trains depart from Adelaide Station. The station for interstate and country trains is the Keswick Rail Terminal, west of the city center. The terminal has a small café, and taxis are available from the stand outside. The Overland connects Adelaide and Melbourne (11 hours) Thursday through Sunday. The Ghan makes the 19-hour journey to Alice Springs on Sunday and Friday, continuing north to Darwin on Monday and Saturday. The Indian Pacific links Adelaide with Perth (40 hours) and Sydney (24½ hours) twice a week.
