$$$$, New Zealand, Blenheim
Fodor's Review:
Marlborough's finest dining experience is tucked away along a short side road leading down to the Wairau River. Superb three- and five-course dinner menus pair Herzog wines with innovative dishes; the set and á la carte menus might include silky yellowfin tuna carpaccio, seared Nelson scallops with asparagus-ricotta ravioli, or a millefeuille with mascarpone mousse and rhubarb compote. The legendary degustation dinners ($199 per person) are booked out well in advance. In addition to the wine pairings, you can study the wine list of 500 vintages. Retire to the lounge after dinner for a cigar and coffee. Herzog also runs very popular cooking classes from November to March; once again book ahead.
