Better yet, visit the Jade Boulder Gallery, which exhibits the work of Ian Boustridge, one of the country's most accomplished sculptors of greenstone. The gallery is a great place to pick up a distinctive souvenir; earrings start at about $10, pendants generally cost a couple hundred, and sculpture can cost thousands. The gallery's latest addition, the Jade Boulder Trail, is an interesting interpretative walk-through display detailing the legends and forms of New Zealand greenstone, with displays of carved and raw jade.
