$$, Australian, The Rocks
Fodor's Review:
The lure of this decadent restaurant, perched high above Sydney Harbour on the 36th floor of the luxurious Shangri-La Hotel, is the view through the floor-to-ceiling windows, but the food is equally impressive. Chef Michael Kean, formerly with London's exclusive Dorchester Hotel, has concocted an enticing menu of Mod-Oz dishes with a definite European influence. The venison and scallop brochette is exquisitely juicy, and if you love seafood you'll find it difficult to choose between the Tasmanian salmon, baby barramundi, or steamed kingfish wrapped in a basil and prawn jacket. For a special occasion, gather a dozen friends to dine in the opulent, egg-shaped private dining room. On the weekends the adjoining bar attracts a crowd that loves the thumping music, so it might be a good idea to beat it early or join in the fun.
