Adelaide has more restaurants per capita than anywhere else in Australia, so travelers are spoiled for choice when dining in town. Restaurants in Adelaide and the surrounding regions favor Mod-Oz cuisine, with main dishes showcasing oysters, crayfish, and whiting prepared with Asian and Mediterranean flavors. Bush foods are also popular; look for quandongs (native plums), wattle seed, and kangaroo.
Many restaurants are closed Monday and Tuesday, and even Wednesday in more rural spots. Same-day reservations are recommended across the board as a courtesy to the restaurant. Some upscale institutions require booking well in advance, and tables are tight during major city festivals and holidays.
