The capital of the Vinh Long Province is the transport hub of Vinh Long, a mid-size industrial town with few points of interest. Most of the tourist infrastructure is near the river, which is a short walk from the main market. Vinh Long can be used as a base to visit the Cai Be Floating Market or the town of Sa Dec, 50 km (30 miles) away. Sa Dec is the modern-day home of many flower farmers and the 1920s home of French novelist Marguerite Duras—and the setting of her most famous novel, The Lover. The drive from Vinh Long south to Tra Vinh has some very pretty sections.
