Getting Here and Around in Everest Base Camp
Getting Here and Around
If you only have eyes for Everest, you can make it here from Lhasa and back in three days. But you spend about 10 hours driving every day, skip all the sights along the way, and hang out for only an hour or so at Everest Base Camp. Most people make this a five-day trip. Not included in the price of your tour will be the Y180 per person entrance fee for the national park, plus Y400 per land cruiser or Y600 per van, usually split among the passengers, and an extra Y180 for the guide's admission. You are not allowed to drive direct to the Base Camp. There is a car park very close to Rongbuk Monastery, and mini-buses (Y25) take you from the car park the rest of the way. Have your passport with you.
