Although it couldn't be described as plush, this centrally located hotel has a laid-back atmosphere that many people prefer, and all but 17 of its rooms have terraces facing the sea. Standard rooms are aging, but the more modern "deluxe" rooms are worth the extra cost. The Montien is across from the beach, and the ocean breezes cool the hotel. The Garden Restaurant has a dance floor and stage for entertainment, which features classically kitschy Thai lounge singers each night. The hotel tends to get tour groups, but it's not overrun by them. Pros: on a pretty part of the beach; spacious rooms. Cons: some complaints about outside noise; feels a little dated.
