This friendly resort at the south end of Chumphon's Thong Wua Beach is a great place to stay if you want to make brief visits to Koh Samui and other nearby islands. The hotel wins top marks for its eco-friendly program, designed to save water and power and keep the beach free of the litter that too often disfigures Thai resorts. Accommodations are in bamboo-wall bungalows hidden in the lush foliage and rooms with private balconies in several low-rise buildings. Furnishings are simple but tasteful. Pros: convenient for island-hopping; eco-friendly. Cons: you won't be fawned over; rooms are nothing too special.
