Koyao Island Resort has arguably the best view of any beach resort in Thailand. From east-facing Haad Pa Sai you have a panoramic vista of a string of magnificent islands. The bungalows are almost entirely open-air, so you not only admire the surroundings, you're part of them—you can even throw open the doors and watch the sunrise from your bed! An ideal romantic hideaway, Koyao Island Resort even arranges private beach barbecues. Although the beach is not great for swimming or sunbathing, there are beach chairs on the grass beside the sea, and kayaks and mountain bikes are available for use around the island. Boats can be hired to visit nearby islands for diving or snorkeling, and day trips, including cultural tours to batik-dying and fishing villages, can be arranged. The restaurant ($$) serves great fresh seafood; you select your meal from the saltwater pond. Pros: captivating panoramas of nearby islands. Cons: not family-oriented.
