The coolest and driest months in central Thailand—between November and February—are also the busiest, since lower temperatures attract travelers. From March to June, the Central Plains, like much of Thailand, becomes almost unbearably hot, with temperatures often exceeding 90 degrees. During the rainy season (June to early October), temperatures a slightly cooler, but frequent flooding in the Central Plains makes a rainy-season visit risky.
The Tak Province's higher elevations mean this region is often cooler than the rest of the country; winter temperatures are often in the 60s or cooler.
During the Loi Krathong festival (usually November), both Ayutthaya and Sukhothai's historical parks explode with orchestrated light-and-sound shows. Tourists fill the towns' guesthouses and hotels; it's a fun time to visit, but be sure to book your accommodations as early as possible.
