Fodor's Expert Review Bussaba
Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai, 50100, Thailand
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
A former 19th-century Chinese trader's home has been beautifully converted into a bed-and-breakfast inn at the heart of a riverside road lined by similar reminders of a bygone era. The teak-floor residents' lounge is a particularly homey touch, and the rooms, although small, are romantically snug, each one a synthesis of Lanna style and taste, softly lighted and featuring local art on the walls. Ask for one of the upper rooms at the rear of the building; they overlook a historic temple and monastery gardens. Ground-floor rooms have tiny gardens right outside the picture windows.
PROS
- near main market and riverside bars and restaurants
- home-away-from-home atmosphere
- friendly, helpful owners
CONS
- on busy street
- front-facing upper rooms suffer from traffic noise
- limited parking
- no restaurant
