Why We Like It

Design junkies will truly appreciate the effort put into the hotel with its mix of the five elements throughout. Every time you stay here, you’ll have a wholly unique experience depending on which floor you decide to frequent. Additionally, the bars and restaurants are top-quality and always a scene, and the pool is both chill and wild depending on the day. Location-wise, this hotel can’t be beat as it’s across from Lumphini park, near multiple public transportation options, and walking distance to great nightlife, shopping, and attractions.

Fodor's Expert Review

Design buffs will drool when they come face to face with the ever-impressive SO Sofitel. Styled around the five elements of metal, fire, wood, earth, and water, whole floors and individual rooms come with design features that play up these elements throughout the hotel. Hip, cool, and appealing to millennials, SO Sofitel is a lux property in a great location with an artful eye for details.

Room

Designed by various Thai artists and famed designer Christian Lacroix, each room in the hotel varies based on themes of elements. Wood-themed rooms come with rich bamboo flooring and oak furniture while water-themed rooms are blanketed in blues. All rooms have incredible views and are equipped with Illy Espresso or coffeemakers, free water, and a complimentary mini bar (minus any alcohol).

Tip Sleep in total comfort by selecting your pillow from the hotel’s extensive pillow menu.

Bathroom

Thematic elements continue in the bathrooms with rich woods, sharp metals, earth tones, or blue water accents. Variations on bathrooms include standalone or sunken tubs, separate showers, and Ytsara bath products.

Lobby

On the ground floor of the hotel, guests are greeted by a giant wooden art installation on the ceiling and an ice-cream/coffee shop and artsy gift shop along the sides. The 9th floor (the real lobby) has hardwood floors, birds nest chandeliers, mismatched low-to-the-ground furniture, a lobby bar, and insanely good views of Lumphini Park next door.

Tip Afternoons in the lobby feature a knock-out tea service.

Pool

The long and narrow pool is great for doing laps and comes with epic views of the park. Surrounding the pool is a deck with comfy banquettes and lounge chairs. The Water Club is the pool bar with full food and drink services.

Tip On the last Saturday of every month, the hotel hosts a wet and wild pool party for guests and locals.

Spa

Walking into SO Spa is like entering a fairy tale forest with large suspended tree trunks and wooden slats on the ceiling. There are seven treatment rooms and guests can get everything from massages and facials to body scrubs and more.

Gym

Soft, gray floors are filled with TechnoGym equipment and have large windows looking out over the city. Classes are available and include Thai boxing lessons and yoga.

Dining

There are a bunch of great eating options at the hotel. On the roof is Park Society, a fine-dining establishment with epic views and an open kitchen. Red Oven is an all-day dining spot with floor-to-ceiling windows and international cuisine. Chocolab is the ground floor coffee and ice-cream shop with handmade chocolates and other delicacies.

Drinking

HI-SO is the rooftop bar with views for days. Every Wednesday is ladies-night where there’s an hour-long special with free sparkling wine (mind the headaches). In the lobby is Mixo where well-trained bartenders create incredible drink concoctions.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

This area is immensely walkable, but if you want to beat the heat, head across the street to the Lumphini MRT subway station, or you can hop on the hotel’s free shuttle to the Sala Daeng BTS Skytrain station to shuffle you around the city. At the intersection of Sathorn Road and Rama IV Road, this is one of the busiest corners of the city for car traffic. It’s also across the street from Lumphini Park, which is the best and biggest green space in the whole city. The area is ever-bustling, night and day and close to a variety of great restaurants, bars, nightlife areas, and shopping complexes.

Restaurants

Nahm (5-minute walk) is a new-wave Thai restaurant inside the COMO Metropolitan Hotel and is consistently rated as one of the top 50 restaurants in Asia. If you want insane views with your meal, head to Vertigo & Moon Bar (5-minute walk) in the Banyan Tree Hotel with high-end cuisine and sky-high vistas.

Bars

If you eat at Vertigo, you can stay at the Banyan Tree and sip on classic cocktails at Moon Bar (5-minute walk). Walking past Banyan, you should head over to Smalls (15-minute walk), a great cocktail bar that’s always packed with locals, ex-pats, and in-the-know tourists.
