The sturdy old Chiang Inn has been demolished to make way for Chiang Mai's most daringly modern hotel, a complete break from the traditional Lanna style that's been so in vogue. Clean lines, brushed steel and glass surfaces, and cubist upholstery dictate the interiors, from the vast, airy, and light lobby to the beautifully lighted rooms, where a wealth of cushions compensate for the somewhat minimalist look. The hotel abuts Chiang Mai's famed Night Bazaar and is surrounded by bars and restaurants. Pros: in the thick of the nightlife scene; short stroll to night market. Cons: small pool; rooms aren't spacious; modern aesthetic won't to those looking for traditional Thai charm.
