Lanna-style boutique resorts are springing up throughout Chiang Mai and beyond, so it's a delight to find a mountain retreat designed in the more graceful Sukhothai fashion. Two finely tapering Sukhothai chedis guide the way to this exquisitely conceived and furnished hotel in the hills north of Chiang Mai. The Sukhothai style is maintained throughout the breathtakingly beautiful ensemble, from the arabesque arches of the interior galleries to the airy, luxuriously appointed bedrooms. Even the courtyard swimming pool is a small replica of the pools that cooled Sukhothai more than eight centuries ago.
