Gin's Guest House Review

Local lawyer Khun Gin and his wife run this charming guesthouse, which is a true home away from home. Rooms are as you'd expect to find in your favorite aunt's country retreat. Some have large hearths for chilly nights. Khun Gin is a mine of local information, and can organize everything from a trip across the nearby Mekong to a two-day cruise to Luang Prabang in neighboring Laos. If the house is full in high season, you'll be lodged in bivouac-style wooden chalets in the extensive, tree-shaded garden, so early booking is recommended.

    Gin's Guest House Review

My wife and I stayed at this place a while back. In all of our numerous travels around the world this was the weirdest experience we have ever had. My wife and I had a chilling comment directed our way.

We were in the restaurant area about 10:00 PM having something to drink and talking with a couple of individuals including the seeming manager named Gin. Upon retiring to our quarters and turning in for bed, we soon found that the room was crawling with large cockroaches. When we reported this to Gin, his remark was ‘there may be two people from Los Angeles who show up missing and floating in the river!’ After this comment we returned to our room and made a decision to leave even though it was quite late at night. We did not communicate this to the proprietors as we did not want to take any chances with respect to the threat. Instead, we left and as it was late at night we simply spent the rest of the time (about 4 hours) until daybreak sitting in a temple behind a statue of the Buddha. Talk about taking refuge in the Buddha!!

From my experience and that of others mentioned here on Tripadviser, I would surmise that Gin may be a psychopath. I would certainly advise any one to stay as far as possible away from this place. Who knows, I wonder if Gin has ever followed through on any of his threats and implemented his sick ideas.
