A reminder of the past, this old wooden Chinese hotel is worth a visit even if you're disinclined to stay in its rather dark rooms. The wide-plank floors are of a bygone age. A balcony overlooking the street is a great place to take in the town. Marvelous antiques are scattered around the hotel, and the delightful owner is happy to sell you some in the shop in the lobby. A live band plays in the restaurant most nights, so if you're planning on turning in early, ask for a room at the back of the hotel. Pros: central location, opposite market. Cons: creaking wood floors and eccentric plumbing.
