Getting Here & Around

Long-distance, air-conditioned buses run regularly from Chiang Mai and Lampang to Phayao, from where local services connect with Nan and Phrae. Journey times from Lampang and Chiang Mai are three to five hours and fares are B100-B200. The most comfortable way of traveling to Phayao is to hire a car and driver in Lampang or Chiang Mai (cost: about B1,000 per day).

Transport within Phayao is provided by a combination of tuk-tuks, songthaews, and samlors. All are cheap and trips within the city should seldom exceed B30.
