By Air

A daily air service between Chiang Mai and Pai, operated by SGA, uses 12-seater aircraft for the 20-minute flight. It's an excellent alternative to the long, tortuous drive.

By Bus

Buses traveling between Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai stop in Pai. They take four hours for the 120-km (75-mi) journey from Chiang Mai and an additional five hours to cover the 130-km (81-mi) from Pai to Mae Hong Son. Fares for each stretch vary from about B100 to B200. Buses stop in the center of Pai.

By Car

A hired car does the trip from Chiang Mai to Pai one hour faster than the buses and cuts the journey time from Pai to Mae Hong Son by about the same margin.
