Getting Here & Around

By Air

A privately operated carrier, PBair, flies from Bangkok to Nan on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. Prices range from about B2,500 to B5,000; the flight takes 80 minutes. Songthaews meet incoming flights and charge about B50 for the 3-km (2-mi) drive south into central Nan.

By Bus

Several air-conditioned buses leave Bangkok and Chiang Mai daily for Nan, stopping en route at Phrae. The 11-hour journey from Bangkok to Nan costs B400-B600; it's eight hours from Chiang Mai to Nan and the cost is B300-B400. Air-conditioned buses also make the five-hour journey from Lampang to Nan. There's local bus service between Nan and Phrae.

By Car

Hiring a car and driver is the easiest way to get to Nan from Lampang or Chiang Mai, but it will cost about B1,000 per day.

By Taxi & Tuk-Tuk

City transport in Nan is provided by a combination of tuk-tuks, songthaews, and samlors. All are cheap and trips within a city should seldom exceed B30.

By Train

Nan is not on the railroad route, but a comfortable way of reaching the city from Bangkok is to take the Chiang Mai-bound train and change at Den Chai to a local bus for the remaining 146 km (87 mi) to Nan. The bus stops en route at Phrae.
