Lamphun
Getting Here & Around
By Bus
The provincial buses from Chiang Mai to Lampang stop at Lamphun, a 40-minute drive south on Highway 106, a very busy but beautiful and shady road lined by 100-foot-tall rubber trees. The buses leave half-hourly from Chiang Mai's city bus station and from a stop next to the TAT office on the road to Lamphun. Minibus songthaews also operate a service to Lamphun. They leave from in front of the TAT office. Fares for all services to Lamphun are about B20. Lamphun has no bus station; buses stop at various points around town, including at the TAT office and outside Wat Haripunchai.
By Train
One slow daily Bangkok-Chiang Mai train stops at Lamphun, where a samlor (pedicab) can take you the 3 km (2 mi) into town for about B30. But the bus is more practical.
By Tuk-Tuk & Songthaew
It's a compact city, easy to tour on foot, although Wat Chamtewi is on the outskirts and best visited by tuk-tuk or songthaew.
