Si Chiang Mai

Si Chiang Mai Review

You can take a marvelous scenic trip on the old road west along the Mekong. Take your own wheels or travel by bus (#507; 1½ hours; B40) to Si Chiang Mai, 50 km (31 mi) northwest from Nong Khai. This sleepy backwater is famous for producing spring-roll wrappers—you can see the white translucent rice flour everywhere, spread out on mats to dry. Just out of Si Chiang Mai at road marker 83 you come to Wat Hin Maak Peng, a meditation temple run by mae chee (Buddhist nuns).
