Ban Kok Sa-Nga

Ban Kok Sa-Nga Review

About 50 km (31 mi) north of Khon Kaen is a small village called Ban Kok Sa-Nga, where virtually every household raises king cobras. The practice was started by a local medicine man some 50 years ago, but is now under the strict control of the Thai Tourism Authority. An official king cobra breeding center has been established on the grounds of the local temple, and there are daily snake boxing and dancing matches, as well as several varieties of cobras in cages circling the grounds. Donations are appreciated, and the hourly shows make for ample photo opportunities. To get to the village, take bus 501, which runs every half-hour from the Ordingary Bus Station to the Ban Kok Sa-Nga village turnoff (B35), and then take a motorbike taxi the last few kilometers.
