Pak Thong Chai Silk and Cultural Centre

Fodor's Review:

A side trip to Pak Thong Chai Silk and Cultural Centre, 32 km (20 mi) south of Korat, offers a chance to see how locals make silk, from the raising of silkworms to the spinning of thread and the weaving of fabric. You can buy silk at some 70 factories in the area. From Bus Terminal 1, buses to Pak Thongchai leave every hour (B50 one-way). They drop you at the market, from where you can explore the surrounding lanes for silk outlets and factories. The most interesting shop is Machada Thai Silk Machada (118/1 Sabesiri Rd. 044/441684 or 081/976-4378), which has weaving demonstrations.
