The main attraction of this Western-style lodging, also known as the Royal Mekong, is its large pool, which is a godsend in the hot summer season. The terrace, cooled by breezes off the Mekong River, is also pleasant. Rooms have great views of the Friendship Bridge and Laos. The hotel's only disadvantage is its isolated location about 3 km (2 mi) outside town. Pros: enormous pool, one of the best in Thailand; deluxe and suite rooms are huge; great river and Lao views. Cons: very far out of town; no other eating options close by; worn carpets and furniture in standard rooms.
