Pla Payai

Pla Payai Review

Perhaps the best place in town to try true regional Isan food, Pla Payai's open kitchen prepares complex but light dishes like mok lab pla tong (lightly grilled minced fish steamed in banana leaf). You also can't go wrong with the larb ped—a minced-duck version of the classic salad, with chilies, red onion, lime, fish sauce, rice powder, and cilantro. One of Khon Kaen's many great places to eat on the lake, Pla Payai is a supremely local joint; if you don't speak Thai, you'll have to stumble and bumble through the ordering process.
