Phu Wiang National Park

Phu Wiang National Park Review

About 80 km (50 mi) west of Khon Kaen is Phu Wiang National Park, where the world's oldest fossils of carnivorous dinosaurs, the Siam Mityrennous Esannensil, were discovered. There are dinosaur museums at the park entrance, at Phu Pratu Teema, as well as in the nearby village of Kok Sanambin. To get here from Khon Kaen by car, take Highway 12 (Khon Kaen-Chumpae Road) west for about 50 km (31 mi), until you reach Route 2038; head north for about 40 km (25 mi) until you reach the park. Bus travel to the park is an ordeal: from Khon Kaen go to Phu Wiang village (B60), but you'll need to hire a B250 round-trip motorbike taxi to do the last 20 km (12 mi) to the site.
