Getting Here & Around

By Air

PB Air (042/587207 www.pbair.com) has flights from Bangkok several times a week, a good alternative to the 13-hour bus ride. The airport is 16 km (10 mi) west of town, just off the road to Sakhon Nakhon and shared transport is available from hotels for B80.

By Bus

Direct buses from Bangkok leave from Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal every hour from 7 pm to 8:30 pm (B550-B1,000). Nakhon Phanom also connects with That Phanom (1 hour), Ubon Ratchathani (5 hours), Udon Thani (5 hours), Khon Kaen (6 hours), and Nong Khai (6 hours).

By Car

Highway 22 runs from Udon Thani (via Sakhon Nakhon) to Nakhon Phanom in about 3½ hours. From Khon Kaen, take Road 209 to Road 213 (to Sakhon Nakhon), and then Highway 22; the trip is about 4½ hours.

By Tuk-Tuk and Bike

Tuk-tuks can take you anywhere in town for B30 to B50. Bicycles can be rented at Khuyonglong (on Sunthorn Wijit just north of the clock tower) for B50 for half a day.
