Royal Cliff Beach Resort Review
This self-contained resort, actually a cluster of four well-kept hotels, is nothing less than an institution in Thailand. The Royal Cliff is known for its staggering size and its setting, perched high on a bluff overlooking the Gulf; most rooms gaze down at the shore. But time has not been kind to the Royal Cliff: the place is starting to feel dated and impersonal, in stark contrast to the new Sheraton next door, which has easily eclipsed the Royal Cliff for best-in-Pattaya honors. On the plus side, even the standard rooms here are big and well furnished, and most have ocean-view terraces (request one ahead of time). Some lavish suites have two bedrooms, which is good for families. There are several swimming pools, each with a view. The beach is nice, but it's a bit of a hike down some stairs. The resort is about 1½ km (1 mile) south of town.
