The son of the author of Anna and the King of Siam was among the founders of this delightfully eccentric place in 1898. Polo is no longer played, but a country-club crowd gathers regularly at the restaurant for lunch and dinner. The food is remarkably good, with a variety of local and foreign dishes—the traditional fish-and-chips are among Chiang Mai's tastiest. Sporty types can enjoy a round of golf on the 9-hole course or a set or two of tennis.
