Chote Chitr

Chote Chitr Review

A favorite of legendary Bangkok food writer Bob Halliday, this simple, diminutive restaurant near Wat Suthat specializes in seafood. Notable in a constellation of superstar dishes are banana-blossom salad (here it's made with shrimp, chicken, tamarind pulp, chili, and coconut cream); perfectly balanced red curry shrimp; and makheua yao (a smoky green eggplant salad with shrimp, shallots, palm sugar, fermented shrimp, and lime juice). Come here for the food, not the atmosphere, and you'll be blown away.

I have no idea how this place still gets rave reviews. As is so often the case, it doesn't live up to its hype.

The food, although good, is nothing special. The atmosphere is classic shop house eatery. But, the prices are definitely those of a western oriented, sit down restaurant, at least 3~4 times what one should expect from such a venue.

If in the area, give it a try. But, I would not suggest hunting it down.
