Fodor's Review

The main reason to come here is to soak up the atmosphere, which includes a classical Thai dancing show. As it gets dark and cools down, the twinkling lights of passing boats set quite a romantic scene at the outdoor tables overlooking the river. The restaurant itself is touristy, with Westernized renditions of Thai food. There are set dinners and buffet lunches with plenty of choices. To get here, take the complimentary shuttle boat across the Chao Phraya River from the

Oriental Hotel.

Sala Rim Naam Review

(A sentimental sweetie these past several years, involving close family, friends, and a certain precious 'better half'.) ... Would suggest dining outdoors at the restaurant's 'terrace' venue, particularly if various riverside wedding birthday / festivals fireworks are anticipated. (As was the case not too many hours back, for this year's ever-lovely edition of Loy Kratong -- special times indeed, by the river.) ... (As for viewing that beautiful

Loy Kratong, we remain partial to the Peninsula's 'T' terrace restaurant, followed closely by the Oriental's terrace establishment and the Shangri-La's outdoor setting -- enormous personal / sentimental reasons, to be sure. (Also, observing fireworks at 'eye level' from one of the Peninsula's 'higher' floors and all-time cherished suites : not bad.) ... Reservations have already been made for next year's Loy Kratong celebration -- rather addicting indeed, particularly when combined with flights aboard that sensational Singapore Airlines. ... Thank you for years of unmatched service and discretion, fine Oriental, Peninsula and Shangri-La staff and management. ... (And, I look forward to seeing some of you again in beloved Bangkok, within the next few days -- sadly, strictly for work, this time.) ... Savour your joyous, uplifting times, riverside...

A Royal Thai Experience

I admit it's expensive but the exquisite dances performed by elaborately costumed dancers was worth the price alone. A short explaination of each dance is given in a small booklet placed at each seat. To that add an elegant setting, delicious food prepared and presented beautifully and great service. There may be food as good and cheaper in Bangkok, but the "experience" of Sala Rim Naam is something I'll never forget.

royal but ..

Great place for a 1st time. You'll have to take off your shoes when you sit inside but they polish them for u! Good traditional performances to cater to tourists as you sample the fine cuisine. Just not sure this is worth repeat visits

Fixed menu and dance progam

Lovely setting, efficient service, good show with written explanations of dances, etc. The menu is fixed. The portions appeared small and while everyone says this is a wonderful introduction to "royal" thai cuisine, I didn't see what was so special. Still, a tourist standard. Come over by the Oriental's boat (we walked from the Peninsula...kinda ruins the atmosphere).
