Fodor's Review

Of the luxury hotels along the riverfront, this 28-story palace is most popular with tour groups. All the well-appointed rooms face the river, but standard rooms tend to be long and narrow, making them feel cramped. The Thai Thara Thong restaurant is memorable, with subtle classical music accompanying your meal, and the nicely decorated Sambal restaurant serves up grilled seafood and steaks. A glassed-in bridge leads to the adjacent River City Shopping Complex. The hotel

runs a free shuttle boat service to the Saphan Taksin Skytrain station every 30 minutes.

Royal Orchid Sheraton Review

One of my first Bangkok hotels for work, and as of a few weeks back, she remains a friendly, solid ~ '4 star' property. ... (Mind you, with the current hotel competition in Bangkok, I can't quite put the ROS ahead of my other main BKK business - and occasional pleasure - travel hotels : Oriental, Peninsula, Shangri-La, Four Seasons, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit and Sukhothai.) ... The ROS has always delivered, however, with a fine staff; clean beds;

quiet rooms/suites (I have always requested a certain 'good karma lodging' on the 25th floor); and a most acceptable 'exec' lounge. ... All in all, a fine work hotel, and once certain 'renovations' are completed, she'll be even better. Thank you, ROS staff, for years of loyal service, joy and discretion. Savour your business (and joyous holiday) times, riverside.

A stay in the Towers is a vacation by itself

The Towers section of the Royal Orchid is a hotel within a hotel. Located on the top few floors of the Royal Orchid, you get a full breakfast, drinks and hors d'ouvres, free laundry and stellar service. You can get a Towers suite (with a jetted tub) for the price of a "regular" room at other places along the river.

Fine hotel at reasonable price

We were very pleased with both the room and the service at this hotel, where we stayed 4 nights in late Jan. 2003. We had a very attractive "standard" room on the 18th floor with magnificent view of the river, for a bargain "long weekend" price of $85 plus tax. The bed was VERY comfortable and I slept about ten hours the first night. We had planned to only stay the weekend, but staff kindly extended this same rate when we unexpectedly had to stay

two more days in Bangkok. We especially appreciated the hotel's excellent business center facilities and helpful staff. Staff at all levels were friendly and accommodating. We found the restaurant prices high, and the one lunch we had at the hotel was unexceptional. But all in all we found this hotel to provide very good value.

5 star luxury, 4 star price

This is my preferred hotel on the Chao Phraya river. The rooms have great views and the service is all-around quite good. Upgrade to a club floor room if you can - the difference in cost is minimal. You have full use of the club lounge, including an evening cocktail hour, as well as daily laundry service (no charge) and a floor butler. I agree that the restaurants are good but not special. So leave the hotel! There are plenty of good places to eat

in Bangkok.
