Though it's north of much of the city and closer to the former airport than other luxury properties, there are plenty of reasons to stay at the Sofitel: the staff is very attentive, the property is close to expressways and subway and Skytrain stations, and rooms are gracefully appointed -- antique prints, bronze statues of mythological figures, and temple-dog lamp stands remind you that you're in Thailand. To the west is a view of the Railway Golf Course; the other side looks out onto the city's astounding vertical growth. The refreshingly cool lobby, with a cascading waterfall, is a welcome retreat from the city streets. Among the hotel's numerous restaurants and bars is Dynasty, a popular spot for Chinese cuisine, and Le Denang one of the better Vietnamese restaurants.
