Once Upon a Time
Once Upon a Time Review
Period photos of the royal family, movie stars, and beauty queens cover the pink walls of this restaurant, which is really two old teak houses. The dining rooms are filled with delightful antiques; there are also tables in the garden between the houses. Mieng khum, a traditional snack of dried shrimp, dried coconut, peanuts, pineapple, chili pepper, and sweet tamarind sauce rolled together in a green leaf, makes an excellent appetizer. Afterward move on to the chopped pork with chili sauce, beef fillet with pickled garlic, or whole grouper, served steamed or fried. The restaurant is about 100 yards down Soi 17, across the street from Panthip Plaza, the giant electronics market.

Rovingrabbit, from Australia
If you are after a good relaxing night out with well prepared food, albeit a little westernised for my palate,(I like it spicy), then you won't be disappointed with this restaurant. Its located in an old teakwood Thai house down a side street and a short walk of about 10 minutes from the Indra Regent Hotel where we were staying. We found the food nice and fresh, well prepared and the restaurant clean (including the rest rooms which is always a good test in my opinion). Dining is smart casual- casual pants and short sleeved shirt is fine for the men and you won't be out of place- for the lady in you life...well, best left for her to decide, but nothing too upmarket expected. We had an entree each, three main dishes to share, two deserts and two club sodas and two large bottles of Singha beer for an all up cost of 1000 baht.I thought this to be good value for the quality of the food and the setting for our night out. Overall we thought it good value for our poor Aussie dollars and a nice night away from hotel restaurant food. Best to book as it is a popular spot.
