The Landmark Bangkok

138 Sukhumvit Rd., Bangkok, 10110, Thailand

Fodors.com

The Landmark is a high-end hotel in a less than high-end neighborhood. But don’t let that detract you. The hotel’s location features a heavy mix of multi-culturalism, big business, fine drinking and dining, and Bangkok’s sordid underbelly. Catering to business travelers during the week and leisure seekers on weekends, the hotel provides a superior level of service, unlimited dining options, and great access to all the city has to offer.

room

Modern-designed rooms are heavy on wood accents and furnishings with stylish carpets and grandiose views. Accommodations are decked out with touch screens for hotel services, flat screen TVs, and complimentary water, tea, and coffee.

bathroom

A glass divider separates the room from the bathroom, but shy types can frost the window if need be. Bathrooms come with sunken tubs and separate showers with white porcelain sinks.

lobby

The polished, high-ceilinged lobby is more of a pass through and meeting space than a hang out. Off the lobby is the Atrium Restaurant and Rendezvous Bar.

Take the elevator down one floor and you’ll realize there’s an entire shopping plaza attached to the side of the hotel.

pool

The pool on the 9th floor has a swim-up bar and is surrounded by wood lounge chairs with red cushions.

spa

Also on the 9th floor is the Viva Jiva Spa that’s open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and provides any number of services like massages, facials, wraps, and more.

gym

Arguably the nicest hotel gym in Bangkok, Fitness First Platinum Club is open to the public (with memberships) but free for guests. Inside the massive space are boxing heavy bags, a spin studio, countless free weights, and cardio machines.

Every hour of every day you’ll find classes like yoga, cycling, Thai boxing, and more.

dining

There are nine different eating and drinking establishments, but the best is the award-winning Rib Room and Bar Steakhouse on the 31st floor--you know, for steak. Chinese food fiends should try Sui Sian for Dim Sum and Cantonese cuisine.

drinking

Nice, pre-dinner drinks are great at the Rib Room. Watching soccer and swilling pints is perfect at The Huntsman Pub. And if you’re looking for rare whiskey and live music, head to the Rendezvous Bar.

Every Friday night, Rendezvous has a wine tasting event for 850 Baht/person.

LOCATION

Getting Around

It’s an easy area to walk in with restaurants, shops, and bars all within 5-10 minutes. At night, this section of Sukhumvit gets a little rowdy--though not in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. If you want to get further away, take the BTS Skytrain from the Nana Station down the block for access to all parts of the city.

Restaurants

For fantastic Indian cuisine (in this predominantly Indian cuisine area), head to Punjab Grill (12-minute walk) inside the Radisson Suites Hotel. True carnivores should head over to the JW Marriott for New York Steakhouse’s (6-minute walk) blood red cuts of beef.

Bars

Above Eleven Bar (8-minute walk) is a breathtaking rooftop joint with Japanese/Peruvian cuisine and unbeatable cocktails. Next door to Above Eleven is Havana Social (8-minute walk) with Cuban-inspired dancing, rum drinks, and a secret entrance.

WHY WE LIKE IT

Not all high-end hotels need to cost an arm and a leg or be situated in the most manicured parts of town. The Landmark is perfect for a top-of-the-line experience, with a reasonable price, in a not-so-fancy neighborhood. Great for business types and leisure seekers, the hotel has one of the best gyms in Bangkok as well as multiple dining and drinking options. Near a Skytrain station and walking distance to surrounding attractions, food, and drinks, you’d be hard-pressed to find a hotel with more top-rate amenities in this part of town.
