Fodor's Review

One of the best restaurants in the city, Doore serves authentic Korean course meals in a beautiful 120 year-old hanok house. The seasonal menu incorporates only the freshest ingredients and is an excellent representation of upscale Korean dining. The place settings use a combination of the heavy brass tableware once reserved for royalty and beautiful, rough hewn pottery, adding to the experience of the meal. In addition to the daily course, be sure to try the tender galbi jjim (steamed short ribs).

Fantastic upscale experience

Not only a great restaurant, Doore is also a fun traditional Korean dining experience - a perfect Fodors restaurant, as my wife and I commented. It's a bit hard to find, in a little alley off another alley; we had to ask the proprietor of another restaurant where it was. Housed in a traditional old wooden hanok house, you are asked to remove your shoes, as per custom. The prix-fixe menu offers only four options: small, medium, large and "special".

We chose the medium size, which was perfect: probably 10 dishes came out over the course of 90 minutes or so. We arrived hungry and left full, but not uncomfortably so. Dishes ranged from the typical Korean standards (spicy homemade kimchi, sweet & savory kalbi) to some really unique dishes (fried pumpkin, rib soup, dried fish). It was a truly memorable meal and nearly everything was a home run. The staff was very friendly, the atmosphere was historic yet comfortable, and the food was outstanding. This restaurant is highly recommended.

Poor value for money

We recently had dinner in this restaurant. The menu was never discussed. After less than 5 minutes more than 15 dishes were served simultaneously, too many to fit on the (large) table. The food was average and the service poor. We asked several times for napkins but they kept on giving minuscule paper napkins (the size of a coaster). Dessert and tea, although mentioned on the menu, were never served. The bill was excessive (50$ per person, each of

us drinking 1 beer). We do not recommend this restaurant.
